    Re: NEW CAR REVEALED!!

i just want to see the real car and not the CAD version, i think this will push A1GP to higher levels, this new car is going to be amazine, the only thing i didnt like about the current car is that it was quite short like a open wheel go kart, lol and also i hated the front wing, what the hell was that on each end, it went up and covered the front wheels, i thought that looked ugle, anyone agree?

    Re: NEW CAR REVEALED!!

With ya on that one Martin the lola was indeed excellent - as it has been in about 4 million other formulas over the last 50 years too.  will be sorry to see it go (hence my underlying fear that A1 will become a ferrari playground, but maybe that's just me).  Lets hope they'll be back sometime in the future.

PS. response to A Murel - good shout on the tyre front i suppose it will be easier as there is no copetition, and if it ends up being Michelin they pretty much know what Chassis they're playing with already.  The tracks however, thats much more interesting.  Speaking of tracks.......

    Re: NEW CAR REVEALED!!

As far as the racing side goes there was no need for Ferrari -- It has to be remembered that Lola/Zytek/Cooper were given a set of parameters for the A1GP car and they successfully built to those requirements.

Lola have extensive experience to be able to produce a new chassis for a more powerful car - Zytek were deliberately running a de-tuned engine so that A1GP didn't suffer the expense of engine failures. There was at least an extra 100bhp in the current engine without any major re-working - And I have no doubt that Avon/Cooper had similar cost requirements applied to their contract with A1GP.

There is only one reason that 'Ferrari' are now involved in A1GP and that is money -- the 'Ferrari' name adds credibility to A1GP Series and will open doors to sponsors and tracks that otherwise would not have been interested -- plus Ferrari get an own label series to rival other motor manufacturers.

All of this is just my opinion and I am certain that A1GP could have continued and improved and succeeded without changing the 3 -- Lola/Zytek/Cooper!

    Re: NEW CAR REVEALED!!

Unfortunately Martin i have to agree with you on all of that  :(

Let's just hope the spirit of this series doesn't get lost in the myriad of Ferrari-money-making-avenues.

have just read the car has just had its first outing, although no concrete details published as of me writing this.  signs are positive apparently!  Is there anyone else out there that thinks all this sort of stuff should've been sorted out a long time ago?  What if there are problems with the car?  They only have about 2 months to sort it out!  Lets see.....

    NEW A1GP CAR

Man those wheels a wide! Almost look like the 1997 car, if you look closer to the pull and push rods

Now there's a blast from the past!  That era of F1 was gorgeous - Damon Hills 'Rothmans' Williams one an absolutely beautiful car.  And whatever happened to Goodyear?!

(Michelin tyres on the new car A Murel - you were right!)

The cars just look better without a thousand wings on them i think.  And those wider cars were beasts.

    Re: NEW CAR REVEALED!!

I like the idea of the new car but there are two things I would like
to see making it into the final design of the chassis, which I think
make for the trademark look (and performance) of the A1GP car:

1- Different size of front/rear tyres
2- A curvy body (especially the wing-box, air intake and nose bridge).

The likeness to the old Ferrari F1 body is obvious and I think that is
something that is NOT beneficial for either F1 nor A1GP. We want a
bodywork that keeps the A1GP series looking different than F1, and
other series. The LOLA chassis achieved a sexy look so I hope that
the design team at Ferrari are kind enough to emulate the beauty of
such a curvy design, so keep the curved lines in the new A1GP car!

    Re: NEW CAR REVEALED!!

I would think that the different sized front/rear wheel rims will stay but bringing in Ferrari on the design side can only lead to an F1 look-a-like.

    Latest news from the frontline......

The A1GP World Cup of Motorsport car for the 2008/09 season continued an intensive testing programme this week at the Autodromo Enzo e Dino Ferrari in Imola.

Following on from successful tests at Fiorano, the Ferrari test track in Italy, Andrea Bertolini has been back behind the wheel of the Powered by Ferrari car, putting it through its paces at Imola.

This is the first time the car has run outside the confines of Fiorano but feedback continues to be positive with the car running on both Tuesday and Wednesday of this week.

New pictures up on the A1GP site. Car looks good in yellow.

Next to Michelin, it's clear that Magneti Mirelli is going to be involved aswell (logo clearly visible on the new images).

    Logical as it's a Ferrari engine set-up.

I just wish they hadn't tacken drawing No123 off the shelf -- A1GP had a distinctive design which you could recognize without any descriptive words but this just looks like an old F1 car -- my thoughts.

Very nice piccies from Imola... i especially like the bumblebee colours! YesCool

    New car

Still... is it a copyright infringement to modify the rear wing-box to the old curvy look?
As a designer i can tell you it will make a big visual difference changing just 1 element!
