The A1 Grand Prix SA team’s thanked Durbanites for helping to put South Africa on the race circuit map…
It’s been officially confirmed that Durban will no longer play host to the next South African leg, as more powerful A1 cars from Ferrari require track changes we can’t accommodate.
A1’s chief executive here, Pete da Silva, says Durban’s done a fantastic job for the last two years.
“Yeah, I must say that it’s my second home is in Durban, so I’m personally disappointed but as a South African it was first and foremost going that I wanted to make sure that South Africa would have an A1 GP going forward.”
So, which South African city’s going to host the next race in February 2009? Jo’burg or Cape Town?
Da Silva was tight-lipped.
“I can’t say at the moment. We are in discussions right now and close to negotiating a completed settlement but I cannot say at this point where it it, but watch this space in the next couple of weeks. I think there will be an announcement made.”
