A1GP to replace Indy on Gold Coast

Could the A1GP replace Indy on the Gold coast next season? With the Indy bosses looking like they dont want to return to the Gold Coast next year. There is an opportunity to get what I think is a more global race the A1GP on track at the Gold Coast.

Well we know that A1GP and Alan Jones are trying but the circuit has to make the decision and no doubt in this economic climate I have no doubt it will all come down to money.

In that case Martin, A1GP looks to be a better option. Tony George and his stooges are the very typical myopic, inward looking Americans from the Mid-West, willing to look at any opportunity to make more money from a foreigner.

Queensland premier has just announced the race for October 2009 Ms Bligh said the new series would feature the faster A1GP cars instead of Indy cars as well as V8 Supercars.

    Looking forward to it.

Fantastic news, A1GP should now make inroads in the Australian market and Gold Coast will be terrific on TV. It will be a great event for anyone who goes as well, it will have a real party atmosphere.

Re: A1GP to replace Indy on Gold Coast

Go the A1GP. It is about time we had a truly international race here on the Gold Coast. We have finally come of age as a motorsport racing mecca. Indy was all about America and American teams. They wanted things done on their terms only and our state government stood up to them and said "Stick Indy Up Your Arse". To the A1GP members, family, support crews and all associated people, we the public of the Gold Coast and Queensland will welcome you with open arms. I am only one person, but bring it on and 300,000 thousand other people will follow!!!!!

    I support everything erniedingo said!

I've worked as a volunteer official at the Gold Coast event for about 12 years and I'm looking forward to seeing the new faces, new colours and new excitement that A1GP will undoubtedly bring to Surfers.

Thank you freon101. Good to see volunteers and the public are responidng to this thread. Let's hope that the V8' s do not overide the A1GP's and they can all work in together. Motor Racing on the Gold Coast is going to ROCK.

A great coup by A1GP, most probably the biggest after the Ferrari deal! YesBig Smile

It should help the series to establish itself further worldwide.

A1 GRAND Prix management have confirmed their commitment to a five-year deal on the Gold Coast and expressed excitement at being able to include the Surfers Paradise race on its calendar.

A1 GRAND Prix management have confirmed their commitment to a five-year deal on the Gold Coast and expressed excitement at being able to include the Surfers Paradise race on its calendar.

A1GP chairman Tony Teixeira yesterday said the Surfers Paradise track was one of the most exciting street circuits in the world.

"We wanted to go back to Australia and this is the ideal venue for our series," said the South African businessman from London.

"A lot of people have worked hard on putting this deal together, and now it has come to fruition it is very exciting.

"I am aware we are being given a perfect opportunity to showcase our series to the Australian fans who have been great supporters of both the series and their own team."

Mr Teixeira said TV fans worldwide would be delighted with the spectacular race.

The first A1GP race on the Gold Coast track, which has hosted 18 IndyCar races since 1991, will be from October 22-25, 2009.

A1 Team Australia Seat Holder and Gold Coast resident Alan Jones said there had been a big hole in the A1GP calendar this year with Australia not being involved.

"To say I am thrilled about this deal is an understatement," he said.

"Having the chance to race in my own back yard is something special for me and the team.

"We are looking forward to it and I can warn all the other teams now I aim to make sure we have a home win in Surfers."

Mr Teixeira said the deal had been done in record time because of tireless efforts of both the Queensland Government and their partners in the event, IMG.

"Both the Government and IMG have offered us every courtesy in putting this together, and I reckon we must have set a record in doing such an important deal in such a short space of time," he said.Big SmileBig Smile

That is todays headline from the Gold Coast local paper. Cannot wait until the A1GP gets here.
