    NEW CAR REVEALED!!

    First images released folks.

as expected it's very Ferrari esque - apparently based around a now 4 year old ferrari F1 car?....

What do people think? They seemed to have maintained a minimal feel to it which is good - hopefully the ability to pass will remain as thy haven't winged the car up to high heaven.

the true test will be when it's out on the track me thinks, and hopefully this isn't the first sign of a1 becoming a ferrari mini series (You'd think they're going to get exiled if they dont say 'powered by Ferrari' at least 17000 times a day), but so-far it looks pretty good?.....

You will see proper photos later this week rather than a CAD image.

Not impressed so far but hopefully when we see proper photos things will look better.

The ability to pass is written in the contract.

Not very impressed by the CAD drawing... rather see the pictures.

Hopefully we will see more next friday as then there will be revealed more of the car.

I think it's quite a nice car... OK, it's not as unique as the previous one but it looks professional and it will go quickly. I'm delighted that they've resisted the urge to put any aero crap on the sidepods, with the only thing being the chimney, and the wings are basic too which is great.

I can't wait to see the real car for 08/09. I hope the car can make A1GP more prestigious. Go A1!

I have used Paint Shop Pro to put the A1 Team GBR livery (with a few changes - red outlines on the front wing endplates, blue flap on the front wing endplates, plain white rear wing) on the new car... I think it looks more interesting in livery.

    that's genius!

Good work A_Murel maybe they thought it was so cool they copied your idea!!  got to admit the orange is just gorgeous.  Remember the Orange arrows f1 car from a while back?  Superb looking car.  Go holland just for being Orange!!  should we say Holland or The Netherlands?  which is best?!

Anyway first test for the new car coming up soon.  Fingers crossed people.....

    Re: NEW CAR REVEALED!!

    Thanx Matt :)

This design of the car is very nice, but also the Aguri in white was the slowest
on the track in 2006 but it was the most beautiful.

BTW, officially its better to say The Netherlands

    Re: NEW CAR REVEALED!!

    absolutely agree!

that chassis was superb and the raised nose is beautiful - i always used to be that car on Grand Prix 4 on the PC!

Does anybody know if Cooper Tyres will remain as supplier for the next six year period?  I'm sure it's been decided i just haven't done my research  Embarrassed

    Re: NEW CAR REVEALED!!

Well, it is not official, but a new tire supplier is rumored. And the name most heard is Michelin

    Re: NEW CAR REVEALED!!

    hmmm that is interesting.

Sounds like they're going for wholesale changes with this new model then.

It could be a good thing though - if it's Michelin it would make sense.  From their point of view as they have recently lost f1.  Also as it probably means its an A1GP direction rather than a ferrari initiative (Ferrari have used Bridgestone in f1 rather than Michelin) so it's another sign that Ferrari aren't set to take over everything (yet) which is a good thing.

For me this is just as important as the new car itself.  Cooper Tyres have had an excellent product and has allowed the cars to race and overtake, particularly on some of the longer sweeping corners (Dubai from season 1 springs to mind) - we can't can't really expect anythin less from now on so this is gonna be a major factor.

So, we've got the new chassis, new engine (and power), potentially new tyres.  What else do we know?.....  Does anyone know if they're keeping the (ahem) 'Big' tyres on the back and the 'Small' tyres on the front?  something else that could be pivitol to overtaking etc?.......

    Cheers.

    Re: NEW CAR REVEALED!!

Sadly, the Cooper tires weren't exactly consistent, and their drop off was quite quick. You'd get one good fast lap out of them.. Michelins tended to be much more consistent in F1, guaranteeing good laptimes for dozens of laps. And: With Michelin, you won't have that much of a difference between one set of tires or another.

    Re: NEW CAR REVEALED!!

hmmm fair shout Richard but i'd have to disagree with you there. Stick out tongue

The Michelins in F1 were notoriously inconsistent, to the point where the drop-off after a first few laps was so huge lap times dropped on average by over a second a lap.  Pretty much every race Michelin users had a 'dry' period where they weren't able to challenge at all, or on other types of track (Indianapolis), they had such a huge fluctuation in performance that it was deemed unsafe to race (Ralf Schumacher's crash) and led to the 6-car-race fiasco.  Tongue Tied

Anyway i'm not saying they would be good or bad for A1 it's impossible to tell, but it'll certainly be interesting to find out.....

    Re: NEW CAR REVEALED!!

They could easily use the Michelin tyre or any other tyre manufactor, because
they dont have to compete against any other tyre maker. So there will be no
6 car race fiasco. This was due to a risk Michelin had taken to bring a too soft
tyre (the cheeks) to be quicker than the Bridgestones.

If the tyres are harder and more consistent will be enough for the championship.
