I vote Verstappen to drive NED car next season. He was really attractive and experienced.

Re: Who's driving for Team Netherlands?

If the team follows the same strategy as they did before (one racing driver + 1 rookie driver all season), I bet it's between Jeroen Bleekemolen, Carlo van Dam and Giedo van der Garde.

Giedo van der Garde and Jeroen Bleekemolen are very likely to be available for A1GP from the start of the season; Giedo is in the world series by Renault, Bleekemolen in the Porsche Supercup and both can win their titles without missing out on any A1GP race / test.

Carlo van Dam races in the Japanese F3 series, can also become the championship winner but the last race of the season overlaps with the race in Mugello (any idea about the Macau GP?)

All other drivers have other priorities:

Robert Doornbos is in Superleague Formula, very likely to be followed by Yelmer Buurman (him testing is already announced); their races overlap with the start of the A1GP season.

Christijan Albers is in DTM, while 2 of the 4 remaining races overlap with A1GP races. The same goes for Renger van der Zande and Henki Waldschmidt who are in the F3 Euroseries (with top-3 chances for Renger).

Junior Stous and Arie Luyendijk are in the Atlantic series, with at least 2 remaining races overlapping with A1GP. I don't know about their title chances.

Jos Verstappen messed up with Jan Lammers and Ho Pin Tung already raced for A1 Team China so both are unavailable.

Personally I hope it's van der Zande as he was quick as a rookie at the end of season 2.

I agree, he has got my vote too - he's a fast driver and not scared to open his mouth... he reminds me of Jacques Villeneuve and Eddie Irvine.

With one difference, he is the fastest driver of them. Automobile

Now that Jos and Jeroen are the LMP2 class champions with Van Merksteijn,
Jos showed again that he is the most talented driver that Holland
has ever known. Don't get me wrong Jeroen Bleekemolen is an
excellent all-round, great defender and well talented and consistent driver,
but I allways have the feeling Jos is really getting the maximum out
of whatever car. It's in his nature to push 110% and does not have
    any other setting.

The funniest example is that he was told to take it easy in the 24h of LeMans
being as quick as the LMP1 Audi's and Peugeots in the rain by his team captain.
His reply over the radio was: "I am taking it easy".

This is the reason why I love to watch Jos Verstappen in action.

Re: Who's driving for Team Netherlands?

reading this is giving Jos the opportunity to focus on A1GP again.

I'd say, Jos is driving only in Zandvoort and see how things go and make
a desision later on for the rest of the season if he will continue.

In the meanwhile the ticketsale will have an enormous boost.

    What do you think?

Re: Who's driving for Team Netherlands?

That article doesn't mention A1GP at all. I doubt that Verstappen is a serious contender considering his falling out with the team previously. It seems Zandvoort gets great crowds for A1GP with or without him anyway.

Re: Who's driving for Team Netherlands?

And the word is out! the Team Ned drivers are pronounced. No not yet at the A1GP site but on the dutch formula 1 site:

    http://www.formule1.nl/nieuwsbericht/10-32-7863.html

Team Ned will hold both Jeroen Bleekemolen and Robert Doornbos. These drivers will switch seats each race.

Which will mean that Bleekemolen will race on the following tracks: Zandvoort, Maleisië, Indonesië, Portugal and the race for 29 march.

Doornbos will race at: Chengdu, New Zeeland, South Afrika, Mexico and Brands Hatch

Let's hope that these 2 great drivers will bring us the 2008/2009 championship Big Smile

Re: Who's driving for Team Netherlands?

The news is on A1GP Team Netherlands site. I guess A1GP might put it on their home page tomorrow since the India news is the main story there today.

Good news for NED, I think Doornbos is Netherlands top driver (I'd rate him above Verstappen and Bleekemolen) and he will be very competitive. While the plan is to rotate the drivers I think Bleekemolen will really be under pressure to perform.

I don't think that you can rate Verstappen, Bleekemolen and Doornbos.
Just for the simple reason that those three are having a totally different driving style.

Jeroen is a fast driver (and a really nice guy) but also a master in defending, a true alround driver.

Doornbos is a bit of a "do or die" specialist really going for it but also very quick especially in the wet.

Verstappen's speed is very raw, can be unbelievable quick and has a magnificant start,
if you put him in a car you know he's getting the most out of a car. If he sees a gap it's his!

The combi Jeroen and Robert (AKA Bobby D) is a very good one!

    Lets hope for the best!

Re: Who's driving for Team Netherlands?

Ah, now the penny drops... Jeroen, after winning the Porsche Supercup and
winning the LMS and 24H of lemans in the LMP2 in the Porsche Spyder,
has for 99% sure a contract as a Porsche factory driver, this can mean he will
drive in the ALMS (American LeMans Series).|

Probably he will be able to drive the first race and after that Robert will take over...

Thats why Team Netherlands are presenting 2 drivers.

Re: Who's driving for Team Netherlands?

Both drivers will do 5 rounds. Jeroen will do Zandvoort, Sepang, Indonesia, TBA and Algarve; Robert will do Chengdu, Taupo, Gauteng, Mexico and Brands Hatch.

New regulations for rookies means team NED needs a new rookie sooner than anticipated. (as Robert would be a rookie under the new rules up to Mexico!)

I have no idea who the new rookie could be, but there are a lot of talented young Dutch drivers around.
